A Tradition of Community
For more than 50 years, Jackson Square has been at the centre of a changing landscape in Hamilton. With a vast range of retail and office spaces, we offer endless opportunities for businesses in the downtown core. For the people of Hamilton, Jackson Square is the only indoor shopping destination in the heart of the city, serving the community’s day-to-day needs and offering convenient entertainment options.
Building a community hub.
The Opening of
Lloyd D. Jackson Square
Construction of Jackson Square, named after Lloyd D. Jackson, a former mayor of Hamilton, began in 1970. The new indoor pedestrian mall was part of a major urban renewal project for the downtown core. On August 22, 1972, thousands of people climbed to the Jackson Square plaza roof for a massive ceremony that included live music, food and a fireworks show to celebrate the grand opening. Over the decades, multiple additions and major renovations have contributed to making Jackson Square the truly community-focused hub it is today.
